General Information

The 2022-2023 Committee on Budget, Education Finance: Education Omnibus Budget Trailer Bill, AB 181, authorizes the Commission on Teacher Credentialing to allocate $20 million in one-time grants to regionally accredited institutions of higher education (IHEs) for four-year integrated teacher preparation programs, including student teaching, and/or to adapt an existing Commission-approved five-year integrated teacher preparation program to a four-year program. These grants support the planning for, creation of, or expansion of four-year integrated programs of professional preparation that produce teachers in the designated shortage fields of special education, bilingual education, science, health, computer science, technology, engineering, mathematics, transitional kindergarten, or kindergarten and/or that partner with a California community college to create an integrated program of professional preparation.

Integrated Teacher Preparation Program Planning Grants
Integrated Teacher Preparation Program Planning Grant RFA. A total of $20 million is available for Integrated Teacher Preparation Planning and Implementation/Expansion grants up to a maximum of $250,000 per eligible applicant for planning grants. Integrated Teacher Preparation Program Planning Grants are available for regionally accredited institutions of higher education (IHEs) to develop plans for the creation of one or more four-year integrated teacher preparation programs that lead to more credentialed teachers in identified shortage fields of special education, bilingual education, science, health, computer science, technology, engineering, mathematics, transitional kindergarten, or kindergarten and/or integrated programs that partner with a California Community College. The intent of the Integrated Teacher Preparation Program Planning Grant is to support building the capacity to implement and operate an effective four-year integrated teacher preparation program. Eligible applicants are not required to offer a Commission-approved subject matter program to apply for this grant. Applications are due to the Commission by 5:00 PM on February 13, 2023.

Integrated Teacher Preparation Program Implementation and Expansion Grant RFA. A total of $20 million is available for Integrated Teacher Preparation Planning and Implementation/Expansion grants up to a maximum of $500,000 per eligible applicant for Implementation/Expansion grants. Integrated Teacher Preparation Program Implementation and Expansion Grants are available for regionally accredited institutions of higher education (IHEs) to create, implement, or expand a four-year integrated program of professional preparation that leads to more credentialed teachers in identified shortage fields of special education, bilingual education, science, health, computer science, technology, engineering, mathematics, transitional kindergarten, or kindergarten, and/or integrated programs that establish a new partnership with a California Community College to create, implement, or expand four-year programs of integrated programs of professional preparation. Eligible applicants are not required to offer a Commission-approved subject matter program to apply for this grant. Applications are due to the Commission by 5:00 PM on February 13, 2023.

Report on the Integrated Undergraduate Teacher Preparation Program Grants

The Educator Preparation Committee presented item 4B at the June 16, 2021 Commission Meeting. This agenda item presents data for the 2019-20 academic year for the state-funded Integrated Undergraduate Teacher Preparation Program grants administered by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Request for Proposal for this grant required reporting for three years after the first cohort of graduates completes the program. Grantees received funding in the 2016-17 academic year. This is the third report to the Commission on Integrated programs; there is no report due to the legislature
