Second Round of Teacher Residency Capacity Grant RFP
A school district, county office of education, charter school, regional occupational center or program operated by a joint powers authority, and nonpublic, nonsectarian schools, as defined in Education Code Section 56034, may apply for funding to of up to a maximum of $50,000 per grant to support a collaborative partnership between the eligible LEA and an IHE that offers a Commission-approved teacher preparation program to develop the partnerships’ capacity to develop and be prepared to operate a teacher residency program for special education, STEM, and/or bilingual education teacher Residents in the applicant LEA. Proposals must be received by the Commission by 5 p.m. PDT on November 5, 2018.

Teacher Residency Expansion Grant RFP
Eligible applicants for Teacher Residency Expansion Grants are Local Education Agencies (LEAs) currently working in partnership with Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) that are operating a teacher residency pathway within their Commission-approved teacher preparation program. A school district, county offices of education, charter schools, regional occupational center or programs operated by a joint powers authority, and a nonpublic, nonsectarian school, as defined in Education Code Section 56034, that are currently working in partnership with one or more IHEs operating a Commission-approved teacher residency pathway may apply for funding of up to a maximum of $20,000 per resident. LEAs that are not currently working in partnership with a Commission-approved teacher residency pathway program are not eligible to apply for a Teacher Residency Expansion Grant but are eligible to apply for an upcoming Teacher Residency Grant competition. Expansion Grant funding may be used to expand existing teacher residency pathways in special education, STEM, and/or or bilingual education in the applicant LEA(s).

Local Solutions to the Shortage of Special Education Teachers Grant RFP
A school district, county office of education, charter school, regional occupational center or program operated by a joint powers authority may apply for funding of up to a maximum of $20,000 per teacher participating in the Local Solutions Grant Program to implement locally-identified solutions that address a local need for special education teachers. Grant program funding may be used for local efforts to recruit, prepare, develop support systems for, and retain special education teachers that include, but are not limited to, teacher service scholarships, student debt payment, living stipends for newly credentialed teachers who earned an education specialist credential, recruitment of former special education or other teachers who may be interested in working as special education teachers, signing bonuses for newly credentialed teachers who earn an education specialist credential, service awards, mentors for existing teachers, professional learning communities, teacher career pathways or other solutions that address a local need for special education teachers. Proposals must be received by the Commission by 5 p.m. PDT on October 30, 2018.
