    Request for Proposals (RFP): California Community College (CCC) Teacher Credentialing Partnership Pilot Program Grants

    Senate Bill 577 specified that the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, in coordination with the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges, may award up to three grants, not to exceed five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) each, to collaboratives formed for the purpose of offering teacher credential coursework remotely in areas of the state with low rates of K-12 credentialed public school teachers, at a participating community college or colleges. For the purposes of this grant, a collaborative shall be comprised of at least one community college, at least one accredited degree-granting institution of higher education with a Commission-approved teacher preparation program and a physical presence in California, and one or more Local Education Agencies that have difficulties recruiting and retaining qualified teachers. The Request for Proposals (RFP) for this grant opportunity is now available, and proposals must be received by the Commission by 5:00 PM PDT, on Monday, June 1, 2020.     EXTENDED DATE: Request for Proposals (RFP): Teacher Residency Grants for Preparation of Education Specialist Candidates

    Funds remain in the Teacher Recruitment, Retention, and Support Grant Programs, allocated in the 2018 Budget-Ed Code § 44415, for new or expanded Teacher Residency Programs. The original funding provided $50 million for Special Education Teacher Residency Programs and $25 million for STEM or Bilingual Teacher Residency Programs.   The funds for STEM/Bilingual Residency programs have been allocated to the current residency programs but there is additional funding for new or expanded Teacher Residency Programs in Special Education Teacher Preparation. The Request for Proposals (RFP) is now available, and proposals must be received by the Commission by 5:00 PM PDT, on Friday, May 1, 2020. The applying LEA must have a strong collaboration with a student teaching based Special Education teacher preparation program approved by the Commission.

    Memorandum to Deans of Education, Directors of Teacher Education and Leaders of Educator Preparation Programs on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Impact on Credential Candidates

    The Commission on Teacher Credentialing is closely monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the anticipated impact of school and university closures on candidates enrolled in educator preparation programs. The Commission is particularly concerned about candidates’ ability to complete clinical practice and performance assessment requirements during this academic year, and is looking for ways to mitigate this situation.

    Request for Proposals for an Evaluation of the California Classified School Employee Training Program

    A single contract award of $250,000 is available for an independent evaluator to conduct an evaluation to determine the success of the California Classified School Employee Training Program (Classified Program). Eligible applicants are Local Education Agencies, including California Community Colleges, with a proven record of experience in assessing teacher training programs. Proposals must be received at the Commission office by 5:00 PM PDT, on Thursday, May 14, 2020.

    Supporting Documentation for Clear Credentials

    CIA 20-01 entitled Supporting Documentation Required with Online Recommendations for Clear Teaching Credentials Credentials provides guidance regarding the supporting documentation that must be uploaded by induction program sponsors during the online recommendation process at the time teachers are recommended for a clear teaching credential. The provisions outlined take effect immediately with the release of this CIA.

    Golden State Teacher Grant Program: Priority Schools

    The Golden State Teacher Grant program allows the California Student Aid Commission to provide one-time grants of $20,000 to each student enrolled in a professional preparation program leading to a preliminary teaching credential, if the student commits to working in a high-need field at a priority school for four years after the student receives a teaching credential.  The Commission’s role in the program is furnishing a list of priority schools that have a high rate of emergency-type permit usage.  For more information regarding the program contact CSAC: www.csac.ca.gov.
