December 2013 Statistic: Program Completers by Academic Major and Preparation Route, 2011-2012
In 2011-2012, about 12,000 program completers finished all their teacher preparation program requirements. Reporting on program completers' undergraduate academic major was a new requirement under the 2008 reauthorization of Higher Education Opportunity Act. The undergraduate academic major distribution of program completers differed slightly by routes.

Any Institution of Higher Education, Educational Organization, and/or Research Organization, and/or a Consortium of eligible entities that has the capacity and experience to develop a process for and conduct an Equating (Comparability) study of Commission-approved TPA models, may apply. Proposals are due by Friday, March 17, 2017.

Request for Proposals To Develop and Implement Four-Year Integrated Programs Leading to a Baccalaureate Degree and Teaching Credential
Any baccalaureate degree granting postsecondary institution that offers an accredited program of professional teacher preparation leading to a preliminary multiple or single subject teaching credential, or an education specialist instruction credential, may apply. Eligible applicants are not required to offer a Commission-approved subject matter program in order to apply for this grant. Proposals are due by Thursday, February 2, 2017.

Commission Awards Grant Funding To Ease Teacher Shortage
The Commission on Teacher Credentialing has announced the award recipients in three separate grant programs funded as part of the 2016-17 California Budget Act. These grant programs are designed to help address California's current teacher shortage by funding a teacher recruitment center, helping to create new undergraduate programs leading to a credential, and supporting classified school employees pursuing a credential.

Darling-Hammond, Harris reelected Commission Chair and Vice Chair for 2014
Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond, internationally recognized education expert, and veteran teacher Kathleen Harris will continue as Chair and Vice Chair of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing in 2014. The two were reelected at the Commission's December 13, 2013 meeting and will serve through December 2014.
