The Language and Academic Development (LAD) specialty area may also be added in the same manner as Moderate/Severe. However, the LAD is only offered as a Preliminary program. The LAD authorization also includes an authorization for Autism Spectrum Disorders. Currently there are no LAD programs available.

2 Candidates completing a Preliminary OR Level I Moderate/Severe or Early Childhood Special Education program will earn a document with a full Autism authorization; the ASD authorization is not needed
