The Commission on Teacher Credentialing issues various types of credentials, certificates, and permits. Many of these documents require renewal on a regular basis. It is the credential holder's responsibility to complete the requirements for the renewal of their document. The renewal code(s) and renewal requirement(s) for each credential, certificate, and permit were printed on the face of the document until September 1, 2008. Since that date, all documents issued by the Commission are available only in a view and print format, available on the Commission's website.

Here are some examples of where the renewal code can be found on your credential if it was issued prior to September 1, 2008:

  • The term of this one-time two-year credential extension is limited to the term established by the holder's first professional clear credential extension. No further extensions will be issued for this credential. Before a five-year professional clear credential will be issued, the holder must verify that 150 clock hours of planned and approved professional growth activities and one-half of one year of experience as specified in The California Professional Growth Manual have been completed since the last five-year professional clear credential was issued. The holder must complete only one set of professional growth and service requirements to renew any or all of the professional clear credentials that he or she holds.
