Courses may be designated as Career Technical Education, Linked Learning, Advanced Placement (AP), California Partnership Academy, International Baccalaureate (IB), etc.

Which standards were used to develop the course? CTE, Academic, or Both?

CTE Standards:

  • CALPADS State Course Code in the CTE 7000-8000 Series should be selected and a CTE Credential** is required

Academic Standards:

  • CALPADS State Course Code in the CTE 7000-8000 Series should NOT be selected, and a Single Subject Credential is required

Both CTE and Academic Standards:

1. More Than 50% CTE Standards: CALPADS State Course Code in the CTE 7000-8000 Series should be selected and a CTE Credential** is required

2. 50/50 CTE and Academic Standards (e.g., Linked Learning or UCCI Course approved by UCOP): Local Level Decision* to identify the course as General Education or CTE.

  • If decide General Education Course: CALPADS State Course Code in the CTE 7000-8000 Series should NOT be selected, and a Single Subject Credential is required
  • If decide CTE Course: CALPADS State Course Code in the CTE 7000-8000 Series should be selected and a CTE Credential** is required

3. Less Than 50% CTE Standards: CALPADS State Course Code in the CTE 7000-8000 Series should NOT be selected, and a Single Subject Credential is required

*A CTE course code must be reported in CALPADS in order to receive CTE Course Credit and/or Funding.  If CTE course code is reported, then the appropriate CTE authorization is required (or the appropriate Single Subject cred. as described in **.

**Single Subject Teaching Credentials in Agriculture, Industrial Technology Education, Business, and Home Economics may teach CTE courses that align with their authorized content area.
