Senate Bill 577 specified that the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, in coordination with the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges, may award up to three grants, not to exceed five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) each, to collaboratives formed for the purpose of offering teacher credential coursework remotely in areas of the state with low rates of K-12 credentialed public school teachers, at a participating community college or colleges. For the purposes of this grant, a collaborative shall be comprised of at least one community college, at least one accredited degree-granting institution of higher education with a Commission-approved teacher preparation program and a physical presence in California, and one or more Local Education Agencies that have difficulties recruiting and retaining qualified teachers. The Request for Proposals (RFP) for this grant opportunity is now available, and proposals must be received by the Commission by 5:00 PM PDT, on Monday, June 1, 2020.
