The Commission on Teacher Credentialing issues various types of credentials, certificates, and permits. Many of these documents require renewal on a regular basis. It is the credential holder's responsibility to complete the requirements for the renewal of their document. The renewal code(s) and renewal requirement(s) for each credential, certificate, and permit were printed on the face of the document until September 1, 2008. Since that date, all documents issued by the Commission are available only in a view and print format, available on the Commission's website.

Here are some examples of where the renewal code can be found on your credential if it was issued prior to September 1, 2008:

The term of this permit is limited to the time established on the holders first issuance of a California teaching credential based on an out-of-state teacher preparation program. As stated on that document, the holder must satisfy the Basic Skills Requirement within one year of the issuance date of that document in order to be eligible to continue teaching. Upon satisfying this requirement the holder, through the employing agency, may apply for an extension of this permit for the remainder of the full calendar year as provided in regulation.
