The Commission on Teacher Credentialing issues various types of credentials, certificates, and permits. Many of these documents require renewal on a regular basis. It is the credential holder's responsibility to complete the requirements for the renewal of their document. The renewal code(s) and renewal requirement(s) for each credential, certificate, and permit were printed on the face of the document until September 1, 2008. Since that date, all documents issued by the Commission are available only in a view and print format, available on the Commission's website.

Here are some examples of where the renewal code can be found on your credential if it was issued prior to September 1, 2008:

To renew this emergency permit, the holder must: (1) complete EITHER (a) six semester units or nine quarter units of approved course work in a Commission-accredited professional preparation program that are required for issuance of the related or prerequisite credential, or (b) hold a credential that authorizes instruction for special education students and obtain a formal recommendation for the clear certificate from a Commission-approved school district, county office of education, or education agency authorized by the Commission, to assess and recommend for the clear certificate; (2) be assigned an experienced educator by the employing agency who will provide guidance and assistance; and (3) apply for reissuance through his or her employing agency.
