The Commission on Teacher Credentialing issues various types of credentials, certificates, and permits. Many of these documents require renewal on a regular basis. It is the credential holder's responsibility to complete the requirements for the renewal of their document. The renewal code(s) and renewal requirement(s) for each credential, certificate, and permit were printed on the face of the document until September 1, 2008. Since that date, all documents issued by the Commission are available only in a view and print format, available on the Commission's website.

To renew this initial issuance of the Emergency Resource Specialist Permit, the holder must: (1) attend an orientation provided by the employing agency covering curriculum for the teaching assignment, classroom instruction, and classroom management; (2) obtain an evaluation by a Commission-accredited professional preparation institution identifying the requirements he or she must complete to be eligible for the credential that authorizes this service; (3) complete EITHER (a) six semester units or nine quarter units of approved course work in a Commission-accredited professional preparation program that are required for issuance of the related or prerequisite credential, or (b) a minimum of ninety hours of professional development activities that are directly related to the subject or class authorized by this emergency, provided the holder's employing agency has a Commission-approved Plan to Develop Fully Qualified Educators, or (c) hold a credential that authorizes instruction for special education students and obtain a formal recommendation for the clear certificate from a Commission-approved school district, county office of education, or education agency authorized by the Commission to assess and recommend for the clear certificate; (4) be assigned an experienced educator by the employing agency who will provide guidance and assistance; (5) maintain his or her valid prerequisite credential (when applicable), and (6) apply for reissuance through his or her employing agency.
