The Commission on Teacher Credentialing issues various types of credentials, certificates, and permits. Many of these documents require renewal on a regular basis. It is the credential holder's responsibility to complete the requirements for the renewal of their document. The renewal code(s) and renewal requirement(s) for each credential, certificate, and permit were printed on the face of the document until September 1, 2008. Since that date, all documents issued by the Commission are available only in a view and print format, available on the Commission's website.

Here are some examples of where the renewal code can be found on your credential if it was issued prior to September 1, 2008:

This one-year preliminary credential may be renewed for the remainder of the five-year preliminary time period provided by law upon the completion of either a two-semester-hour course or an examination covering the provisions and principles of the U.S. Constitution. During the first two years of the five-year preliminary time period that begins with the issuance of this document, to continue employment the holder must also complete the Level I requirements of an approved program of personalized preparation and have them verified to the employing school district. Before the end of the five-years, the holder must complete the remaining requirements for the clear credential: two years of successful teaching, the Level II requirements of an approved program of personalized preparation, and the health education unit; and must receive the recommendation of a Commission-approved Local Education Agency or employing school district.
