Commissioners Appoint New School Board Member to Committee of Credentials

SACRAMENTO – The Commission on Teacher Credentialing would like to congratulate Darrell Woo on his appointment as a School Board Representative on the Commission’s Committee of Credentials.

Mr. Woo currently serves as a trustee for the Sacramento Unified School District. Prior to being elected a school board trustee, Mr. Woo was an adjunct professor at Lincoln Law School. These positions are only the latest in a long career dedicated to public service. Mr. Woo has also served on the Sacramento City Planning Commission and the Sacramento Parks and Recreation Commission. Before retiring, he worked in State service for more than 38 years as a Senior Attorney for the California Department of Insurance, a Staff Counsel for the California Department of Food and Agriculture, and an Energy Facility Siting Planner for the California Energy Commission. The Committee of Credentials is a body whose seven members are appointed by the Commission and represent the following groups: Elementary Teachers, School Board Members, School Administrators, Secondary Teachers, and the Public.

The Committee is responsible for initiating all investigations into allegations of misconduct by credential holders and applicants. In order to ensure a high level of public confidence in California teachers and other credentialed public school employees, the Commission and the Committee monitor the moral fitness and professional conduct of credential applicants and holders. As a Committee member, Mr. Woo will participate in monthly meetings to review allegations of misconduct and recommend disciplinary actions to the Commission when appropriate.
