You will need to obtain your fingerprint clearance specifically for the Commission. If you already have valid fingerprints on file with the Commission, it is not necessary to fingerprint each time you apply for a credential or permit. However, if your fingerprints are expired then you must re-establish fingerprints. Details on how to check your fingerprint status can be found at Check Application Status.

The online application will require you to answer questions related to your professional fitness. Please review How to Complete the CTC Online Professional Fitness Questions before completing the application. If you must answer "yes" to any of the professional fitness questions, please gather all documentation, including any required police reports, certified court records, and miscellaneous documents related to the incident and have them ready to upload as attachments along with the materials for verifying academic requirements listed below. If any of the records have been purged or are otherwise not available, provide an original statement from the agency on its official letterhead verifying that fact.

Verification of three years of work experience directly related to an industry sector
      • The Industry Sectors chart is intended to be a guide to the industry sectors. However, please note that some of the occupations, such as "drafting," can be applied to more than one industry sector. The most important thing in determining which industry sector best applies is your background and expertise.
      • One year equals a minimum of 1000 clock hours and the experience may be full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid.
      • You must have at least one year of actual work experience in order to qualify.
      • Verification of work experience means written confirmation of your qualifying experience, signed by your past or present employer(s) on company letterhead that attests to and/or includes all of the following:
        • Employer’s name, address, and telephone number.
        • The working relationship between you and the person signing the verification.
        • Beginning and ending dates of employment.
        • Complete description of duties.
        • A statement as to whether or not the employment was full-time (if employment was less than full-time, an accounting of the number of hours the applicant was employed is required.)
If you were self-employed or if your experience was avocational, the verification must include a statement you signed detailing the information described above, and must be further substantiated in writing by other person(s) having first-hand knowledge of your self-employment or avocation, such as your accountant, major supplier of goods, or major user of goods or services.
      • At least one year of the required work experience must be within the last five years, or two years within the last ten years, immediately preceding the issuance of the permit. For the purpose of meeting the recency requirement, any of the following, or a combination of the following, may be cumulated to total 1000 clock hours:
        • Work experience
        • College-level related course work
        • Non-college related course work
        • Occupational internship
        • Vocational teaching experience
      • Letters must be scanned copies of original letters or electronic PDFs. If a letter is a scanned copy, the original letter that was scanned must be signed with a wet ink signature. If a letter is an electronic PDF, it must be signed with an acceptable electronic signature. Screenshots are not acceptable.
      • NOTE: Completion of 48 semester units of postsecondary vocational training related to an industry sector may be substituted for a maximum of two of the three years of required work experience. The coursework must be verified by official transcript and may be made on a pro rata basis up to the two-year maximum.
      • NOTE #2: Additionally, one or more of the following may be used for up to a maximum of two of the three years of required work experience:
        • Possession of an advanced industry certificate related to an industry sector as determined by the Commission.
        • One year of full-time general education teaching experience providing instructional services in preschool or grades K-12 earned in a public or private school of equivalent status.
