There are a variety of full credentials and emergency permits that allow educators to serve as a substitute teacher. Different documents permit the educator to be in the classrooms for different durations. In general education classrooms, the lengths of service for any one educator are as follows:
Emergency Substitute Permit for Prospective Teachers
- 30 cumulative days for one teacher
- Limited to 90 days of annual service
Emergency 30-day Substitute
- 30 cumulative days for one teacher
- No limit on annual service
Emergency Career Substitute Permit
- 60 cumulative days for one teacher
- No limit on annual service
Teaching Permit for Statutory Leave (TPSL)
- Full length of Statutory leave in appropriate authorization areas in restricted district
- 30 cumulative days for any one teacher, otherwise
- No limit on annual service
Full General Education Teaching Credential
- No limit on cumulative days in appropriate authorization areas
- 30 cumulative days for any one teacher, otherwise
- No limit on annual service
