The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (Commission) is an agency in the Executive Branch of State Government. Created in 1970 by the Ryan Act, it is the oldest of the autonomous state teaching standards board in the nation.
The Commission is responsible for the following in California:
- Developing program standards and accrediting educator credential preparation programs
- Issuing credentials and permits for service in California's public schools
- Educator disciplinary actions

AACTE (American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education) today announced Mary Vixie Sandy, Ed.D., executive director of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, as the 2025 recipient of the AACTE David G. Imig Award for Distinguished Achievement in Teacher Education.
