Limited Assignment Teaching Permits

The General Education Multiple Subject Limited Assignment Multiple Subject Teaching Permit authorizes the holder to teach self-contained classes, such as those generally found in elementary schools.

The General Education Single Subject Limited Assignment Single Subject Teaching Permit authorizes the holder to teach departmentalized courses within the authorized field or fields named on the document, such as those generally found in the middle and high schools.

The subjects that may be listed on a Limited Assignment Single Subject Teaching Permit are as follows:

  • Agriculture
  • Art
  • Biological Sciences (Specialized)
  • Business
  • Chemistry (Specialized)
  • English
  • Foundation-Level General Science
  • Foundational-Level Mathematics
  • Geosciences (Specialized)
  • Health Science
  • Home Economics
  • Industrial and Technology Education
  • Language Other Than English (specify)
  • Mathematics
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Physics (Specialized)
  • Science: Biological Sciences
  • Science: Chemistry
  • Science: Geosciences
  • Science: Physics
  • Social Science

The Special Education Limited Assignment Teaching Permit authorizes the holder to teach in the area of specialization listed on the permit in special day classes, special schools, home/hospital settings, correctional facilities, nonpublic schools and agencies, and resource rooms.

The specialization areas that may be listed on a Special Education Limited Assignment Teaching Permit are as follows:

  • Mild/Moderate Disabilities (M/M)
  • Moderate/Severe Disabilities (M/S)
  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)
  • Visual Impairments (VI)
  • Physical and Health Impairments (PHI)
  • Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)

Requirements are the same for all candidates


Out-of-Country Prepared Candidates

Requirements are the same for all candidates, except that the course work and/or degrees posted to a foreign transcript must be evaluated by a foreign transcript evaluation agency before the Commission can consider them for certification purposes.
