Preconditions for Adapted Physical Education Specialist Credential Programs
(Previously the Adapted Physical Education Added Authorization)
Precondition 1. Possession of a Prerequisite Credential. Candidates for the Adapted Physical
Education Specialist Credential must hold a teaching credential in one of the following: 1) Single
Subject: Physical Education; 2) Multiple Subject; 3) Education Specialist; or 4) teaching
credentials issued under prior statutes with comparable authorizations to 1-3.
Precondition 2. Prerequisite Coursework. Candidates who hold the Education Specialist
credential as the prerequisite credential must provide evidence of a minimum of 12 semester
units (or equivalent quarter units) in physical education coursework including a minimum of 3
semester units (or equivalent quarter units) in both motor development and kinesiology, or
must take this coursework as a prerequisite to or concurrently with the Adapted Physical
Education Specialist Credential coursework. Candidates may pass all sections of the CSET
examination in Physical Education in lieu of the coursework.
