Below is information related to current credential holders and individuals who may be looking to apply for a credential in the near future that may be impacted by the current COVID-19 crisis. The Commission is continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will update information that impacts credential holders and applicants as it becomes available.
Credentialing Questions

Questions from educators and employing agencies regarding credentialing requirements, policies, and application procedures should be sent to the Commission’s Certification Division. Given the current situation, we ask that individuals contact the Commission via email at credentials@ctc.ca.gov or via Live Chat through the live chat link and image at the bottom of this page (available Monday-Friday, 10am to 4pm).

For Educators Who Were Unable to Complete Their Renewal Requirements for a Preliminary Credential or Emergency Permit
Extensions by appeal are available when there are valid reasons why an educator could not complete renewal requirements for a credential or permit. Information can be found on the Extensions by Appeal page.

For Educators Who Were Unable to Renew Their Clear Credential Online Prior to the Expiration Date
Education Code Sections 44332, 44332.5, and 45036, and Title 5 Sections 80600, 80601, 80603 and 80604 outline the process for employers to request a Validation of Service when an employee has rendered service in a position requiring certification for a period in which the employee did not hold appropriate certification or a Temporary County Certificate. Employers should contact the Commission’s Information Services email address (credentials@ctc.ca.gov) with any questions related to the Validation of Service process. A validation of service request must come from an employing agency and will not be honored if requested directly by an educator.

For Educators Whose Paper Application Submission was Delayed
Requests to expedite the processing of a paper application may be made by an employing school district, charter school, or county office of education. Such employers should contact the Commission’s Information Services email address (credentials@ctc.ca.gov) with any questions related to a request to expedite an application. A request to expedite must come from an employing agency and will not be honored if requested directly by an educator.
