This page reflects the work of the Professional Services Division (PSD) of the Commission and is primarily intended for Colleges and Universities, Districts and County Offices of Education, and Induction Programs that offer or seek to offer preparation programs for California educators.
The Professional Services Division of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing is responsible for:
- the development of California's educator preparation standards for all credential areas
- ensuring quality of preparation programs through accreditation activities
- the development and administration of California's system of educator examinations
- administration of California's state funded educator development programs

Common Standards Work Meeting: June 12-13, 2008 [MS Word]
The Commission has asked that the Committee on Accreditation (COA) review the language of the Common Standards for applicability to: 1) the variety of approved program sponsors including universities, college, school districts, county offices of education and other entities; and 2) the full range of educator preparation programs that are approved by the Commission including teaching credentials, service credentials, at both the initial and advanced level. This work will inform the discussion on by the Committee on Accreditation at its June meeting. Please submit your reservation by June 5th, 2008.

May 9, 2008 - Report on the Study of Special Education Certification [PDF]
The Report on the Study of Special Education Certification: A Report to the Governor and Legislature as Required by SB 1209 (Chap.517, Stats, 2006) provides the mandated report (December 2007) to the Governor and Legislature on Special Education and proposes a plan for implementation of its recommendations. It includes information about the activities that have occurred since June 2006 to modify the requirements for Education Specialist credentials, including (a) implementation procedures to add an English learner authorization to the current Education Specialist Credential, (b) conducting field meetings to examine issues related to modifying the Credential, and (c) the twenty five recommendations made to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing as a result of the review of the structure and requirements for the Special Education credentials.

Accreditation Framework -- December 2007 [PDF]
The revised Accreditation Framework was adopted by the Commission at the December 5 meeting. This Framework contains the Commission's policies related to accreditation. The Framework also contains the revised Common Standards that take effect on July 1, 2008.
