  • Coded Correspondence 15-05: Variable Term Waiver for the Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential
    The Commission on Teacher Credentialing (Commission) adopted new criteria for the initial issuance and reissuance of a Variable Term Waiver (VTW) for the Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Services Credential and authorized staff to approve or deny VTWs based on the adopted criteria. The criteria became effective on January 1, 2015.

  • Coded Correspondence 15-04: Application Processing Fee Increase Effective July 1, 2015
    In the May Revision, the Governor proposed that the Commission on Teacher Credentialing's (Commission) 2015-16 budget include a processing fee increase from $70 to $100 (reference Education Code §44235). The Legislature has adopted and the Governor has approved the proposal as part of the 2015 Budget Act; therefore, the proposed fee increase will become effective July 1, 2015.

  • Commission on Teacher Credentialing 2015-16 Budget
    On June 24th, the Governor signed the 2015-16 Budget Act, which included language increasing the Commission on Teacher Credentialing's application fee from $70 to $100. This fee increase will become effective on July 1, 2015 and applies to both new and renewed/reissued applications.

  • June 2015 Statistic: Number of Approved Educator Preparation Programs, 2010-2014
    To be eligible to offer educator preparation programs, institutions (colleges, universities, school districts, county offices of education or other entities) must qualify for Initial Institutional Approval and then must submit a proposal demonstrating how each proposed educator preparation program meets the applicable Commission program standards. The Committee on Accreditation (COA) approves the program once the standards are found to be met.

  • August 2015 Commission Meeting Rescheduled
    The Commission on Teacher Credentialing has rescheduled the August 2015 meeting. The meeting will be held on August 27-28, 2015. Please see the following list of upcoming Commission meetings.

  • May 2015 Statistic: California Teachers Prepared in Other Countries
    In fiscal year 2013-14, about 240 initial teaching credentials were issued to teachers who were prepared in other countries. Another 340 teaching credentials were renewed during the same fiscal year.

  • Ongoing Application for Vacancies on the Committee of Credentials
    A member of the Committee of Credentials attends 3-day meetings in Sacramento each month, to review allegations of misconduct and unfitness for which an application for a credential may be denied, or an adverse action (private admonishment, public reproval, suspended or revoked) taken against an educator.

  • April 2015 Statistic: Career Technical Education Teaching Credentials Issued
    The Preliminary Designated Subjects Career Technical Education (CTE) Teaching Credential authorizes the holder to teach within the industry sectors named on the credential in grades twelve and below and in classes organized primarily for adults, in career technical, trade or vocational courses.

  • March 2015 Statistic: Age Distribution of New Credential Holders in 2013-14
    In 2013-14, nearly 33,000 individuals received new credentials or permits in one of the following areas: K-12 teaching (Multiple Subjects, Single Subject, Education Specialist, Designated Subjects); services (Administrative, Pupil Personnel Services (PPS), Speech-Language-Pathology (SLP), School Nurse, Teacher Librarian) or in Child Development (CD) (Assistant Permit, Associate Permit, Teacher Permit, Master Teacher Permit, Site Supervisor, Program Director).

  • 2014 PTTP Report
    Commissioners approved the 2014 PTTP Report to the Legislature during the December 11-12, 2014 Commission meeting. Funding for the PTTP is now folded into the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). The 2014 report includes a description of changes to the PTTP and program funding as a result of passage of LCFF legislation.

  • Committee of Credentials Vacancies
    The Commission on Teacher Credentialing has one Public Member vacancy on the Committee of Credentials. The Committee reviews allegations of misconduct against educators. Applications are due by May 29, 2015.

  • December 2014 Statistic: Teacher Preparation Enrollment and Program Completers by County, 2012-13
    In 2012-2013, about 20,000 teacher candidates enrolled in one of the eighty-nine teacher preparation programs that offer preliminary teaching (multiple subjects, single subject, and education specialist) credentials.

  • Commission's Accrediting Committee Re-elects Co-Chairs for 2014-15
    The Commission on Teacher Credentialing's Committee on Accreditation (COA) has re-elected two experienced California educators to lead the COA in 2014-15: Kenneth Lopour, representing the K-12 community; and Reyes L. Quezada, Ed.D, representing the higher education community.

  • Darling-Hammond, Harris reelected Commission Chair and Vice Chair for 2014
    Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond, internationally recognized education expert, and veteran teacher Kathleen Harris will continue as Chair and Vice Chair of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing in 2014. The two were reelected at the Commission's December 13, 2013 meeting and will serve through December 2014.

    Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr., has reappointed Commissioners Casallas, Cooney, Darling-Hammond, Harris and Ramirez to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

  • December 2013 Statistic: Program Completers by Academic Major and Preparation Route, 2011-2012
    In 2011-2012, about 12,000 program completers finished all their teacher preparation program requirements. Reporting on program completers' undergraduate academic major was a new requirement under the 2008 reauthorization of Higher Education Opportunity Act. The undergraduate academic major distribution of program completers differed slightly by routes.
