I haven't taken any CLAD exams or course work yet. Where do I start?
It is your decision whether to take the exam or course work route to earn the CLAD Certificate.
Exam Route: Using the information below, contact National Evaluation Systems, Inc. to register for California Teacher of English Learner (CTEL) Exams 1, 2, and 3. Remember, CTEL exam scores are only valid for certification purposes for five years from the individual passed test date.

Course Work Route:
Contact a college or university found in the link below and complete 12 semester units of CLAD course work that cover domains 1, 2, and 3, including a specially designed academic instruction delivered in English (SDAIE) component.
NOTE: The current route to earn a CLAD Certificate by completing course work at colleges and universities will continue until new program standards have been approved by the Commission, the colleges and universities submit programs, and a transition period is determined. Since the standards have not yet been approved by the Commission, no date has been established when the current course work route will end. The cutoff date for the current course work route will be no sooner than July 1, 2007. An individual who completes the appropriate course work but cannot apply for a CLAD Certificate under the current route by the yet to be determined transition date may still use that course work to earn the CLAD Certificate under certain circumstances. Eligibility for the CLAD Certificate will be based on the date the course work was completed not on the date the application was received at the Commission. As information regarding timelines for implementation of new programs becomes available, it will be posted on the Commission's website.
