General Teaching Performance Assessment information
Statutory uses of the teaching performance assessment results.
Program sponsors must use the teaching performance assessment for the following statutory purposes:
- Formative information for use by the candidate
- Summative information as one basis for the recommendation of a candidate for a credential
- Evidence of program effectiveness
- Formative information for use in an induction program
Maintaining records of candidate performance on the teaching performance assessment.
Program sponsors should treat and maintain candidate records of performance on the teaching performance assessment as part of their overall student records in accordance with institutional policies and practices concerning official student records. Program sponsors will also want to take into consideration the maintenance and availability of aggregate candidate data for accreditation purposes.
Overall program responsibilities relative to the teaching performance assessment.
Program sponsors are responsible for providing and/or assuring:
- oversight for the implementation of the teaching performance assessment
- sufficient qualified, trained assessors of candidate performance
- double scoring of a minimum percentage (15-20%, depending on performance assessment model) of candidate responses on each task to ensure reliability of scoring and fairness to candidates across the state
- maintenance of candidate records (as described above)
- use of assessment results for the purposes specified by statute (as described above)
