FAQ - Child Development Permits

Are Child Development Permits renewable online?
No. Currently, the only way to renew your Child Development Permit is to submit an application by mail. See the How to Apply section of this website for more information.

Does an Associate Teacher Permit require completion of professional growth?
No. The renewal requirements for the Associate Teacher Permit are completion of 15 semester units of AA or higher degree applicable course work towards the Child Development Teacher Permit.

When can I use the half fee incentive for a permit upgrade?
When a permit holder completes all of the requirements for the higher level permit within three years of the date of initial issuance, the individual may submit an application for renewal and the original permit and pay half the renewal fee.

What is a Supervised Field Experience?
A supervised field experience is defined as instruction performed in a childcare and development program for college credit that is supervised by a person approved through a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

Will my home daycare experience meet the requirements to qualify for the site supervisor or program director permits?
No. Experience must be earned in a licensed facility that serves 14 children, and include supervision of an aide or teacher.
